How To Keep Your Teeth White
03/11/2021
As we age, our teeth gradually change colour and become less white. This is a natural effect of aging, however, changing your lifestyle can help keep your teeth whiter for longer.
Avoid Foods and Drinks That Stain
A lot of the food and drinks we consume everyday can cause teeth staining. Drinks such as tea, coffee and red wine are the worst offenders as they content so much pigmented colour. These are the most popular drinks in the UK, so cutting them out altogether may be unrealistic. Instead, try drinking water immediately after consuming these drinks to minimise the chance of staining. Drinks aside, there are many foods that also stain such as curry, beetroot and tomato sauces.
Brush or Rinse
After consuming a drink or item of food that you fear may stain your teeth, you should drink water and brush your teeth if you can as this will remove any particles of food from your mouth that could linger and stain. Alternatively, keep some sugar free chewing gum in your bag and chew this.
Look After Your Teeth
A good oral hygiene routine is the best protection for your teeth, mouth and gums. Brushing twice a day and flossing before bed is dentist recommended. You could also rinse your mouth after your main meal to remove any food particles from between your teeth. Avoid rinsing immediately after brushing as this will remove the fluoride protection from your toothpaste.
Teeth Whitening
If your teeth are naturally dark or are badly stained, our professional dentists provide teeth whitening services to help you achieve your desired shade of white.
